Warwick Triathlon member crowned world champion

A student from The University of Warwick has been crowned under-20 triathlon world champion at the World Age Group Triathlon Championships in London.

Charlotte Taylor won her age group in the olympic distance race, consisting of a 1500m swim, 40km bike and a 10km run.

In the process, she became Warwick Triathlon’s second world champion, following the achievement of team-mate Eloise du Luart. Eloise clinched glory at the World Age Group Duathlon Championships in Ottawa, Canada, in August.

Eloise finished seventh in the 20-24 age group at the competition in London, while club members Sarah King and Eoin O’Flynn finished 39th and 34th respectively.

Charlotte’s success, which builds on her existing status as national champion after winning at the Liverpool Triathlon in July, marks the beginning of a gruelling schedule.

The club confirmed that she will enter for the BUCS duathlon in November, and may also attempt the BUCS Cycling Hill Climb in October.

Another member of the club may have other things on his mind, though – namely adapting to marriage.

Sascha Ott completed his first ever ironman triathlon a week before the Championships in London, finishing the 3.8km swim, 180km bike and 42km run in 12 hours and 41 minutes.

But he had enough in the tank to add a final flourish on the finishing line, proposing to his girlfriend on the finishing line. Fortunately, she said yes…
