Shoplifter arrested in Costcutter

A suspected shoplifter was arrested in Costcutter on Warwick campus yesterday (June 6).

A witness, third-year English and Theatre student George Ewan Want, described a scene of two police vehicles speeding up to the store at around 4.20pm.

I was sat on the grass outside the Arts Centre, and two police vehicles (one car, one van) came around the corner from the direction of the Sports Centre and pulled up outside Costcutter,” he told the Boar.

I’ve no idea why they were called but they seemed to be in a rush – they had sirens and lights on and dumped the vehicles before going into Costies. They were probably in there about ten minutes, before bringing a guy out and putting him in the van. From my distance I couldn’t tell whether he was cuffed or not. He appeared to be student age and was male.”

A spokesperson for the University, Peter Dunn, confirmed that a shoplifter had been arrested, but said he could not release any more details as it was a matter for West Midlands police.

The Boar has filed a request with West Midlands police for more information, which will be released as soon as it is received.
