Extra buses to run between campus and Leamington during vacations

Stagecoach has agreed to run extra buses during peak times over holiday periods following negotiations with Warwick Students’ Union (SU).

During the first week of the Easter break many students complained that there were not enough buses running, that those running were off schedule and that when they arrived they were too full.

In an effort ease the situation Warwick SU asked students to give exact details of their complaints in a blog post so that all information could be collated in one place.

Graham Hine, transport manager at the University of Warwick, helped the SU approach Stagecoach for further discussion, and has organised a duplication of all the peak-time bus services, to ensure that buses do not become too full.

Rachel Callear, second-year History and Politics student, told the Boar: “For Freshers it’s not so much of a problem – I remember that I only had one long essay to do and it was in for Week 3.

“However, loads of second and third-year students have exams in Week 1 and need to have reliable transport to get to the library.

“I’ve been trying to write four long essays with limited library access – which gets annoying! I’m glad they’ve sorted it now though, even if it’s only a for a week it’ll make a difference.”

Although this change has been negotiated towards the end of the Easter holidays, Stagecoach have confirmed that additional buses will also run at peak times during future vacations.

The bus company has also agreed to monitor their services and liaise with the SU over the last few days of the holidays and at the beginning of term three, ensuring that there are no further major problems with services.

Extra buses have been arranged from Leamington to campus in the morning, with the bus journeys which leave the Crown at 08.37 and 09.37 duplicated.

In the evening, there will also be extra buses departing from the Arts Centre bus stop on campus at 16.57, 17.57, 19.10 and 20.10 to Leamington.

The extra buses will run through the entire service, and not just from the upper parade.
