Zoe Buckland for sports

Zoe Buckland will take the position of sports officer next academic year.

Third-year Maths student Ms Buckland promises to transform the Warwick Sport website, increase storage and record Wednesday lectures.

Ms Buckland fought off competition from Robbie Gorman, Thomas Lamb and Baris Yerli.

“This has been the best week of my life,” Ms Buckland told the Copper Rooms.

The sports officer organises and promotes Varsity, and supports and develops sport clubs execs and Warwick Sport itself.

Alys Cooke, current women’s officer, said she was happy to see female candidates being elected. She said: “I’m really pleased that so many great women are running this year and a great woman won sports – it shows how well our union is progressing and that gender is not an issue!”

Mr Yerli received the least votes, followed by Mr Gorman and then Mr Lamb.

Ms Buckland will take over from current sports officer Natasha ‘Bam’ Cabral in the summer.
