Second round of Warwick Social Enterprise Awards completed

**The application for the second round of the Warwick Social Enterprise Awards 2013 has come to a close.**

Together with charity UnLtd and the Higher Education Funding Council for England, Warwick brings access to the funding of £47,000 in total for the awards.

The initiative is open to students, staff members and graduates of Warwick in the last 12 months, who live in the UK for the duration of the project and are individuals or part of an informal group.

According to UnLtd, social enterprises are “businesses that trade in order to achieve a social objective, reinvesting their profits in the business and in achieving their social mission”.
Innovative business plans that bring about changes to benefit the public or a community in the UK are considered more competitive for the award.

Prizes up to £500 could be awarded to “individuals not yet used to managing large sums of money or planning larger projects”, and up to £5,000 for “exceptional individuals who have the potential to bring about social change”.

The fund should be used for insurance, relevant equipment, venue hire and so on, but not for applicants’ personal expenses such as academic qualifications and tuition fees.

Three rounds of awards are available for this year. The application deadline for Round 3 will be on June 14th (Term 3, Week 8), followed by a panel on June 21st. There will also be a showcase of successful projects on October 7th.
