Gill takes postgraduate officer

Lucy Gill has been announced as next year’s Postgraduate Officer.

Ms Gill, studying a postgraduate degree in History, beat Kit Long as the only other candidate in the race.

The position was won by just 100 votes.

Ms Gill said: “It was really really nerve wracking – I wasn’t sure what was going to happen! I’m quite in shock actually it was really really close.”

Speaking about her relationship with Mr Long, she said they know each other “quite well” and hope they stay friends.

She also described current postgraduate officer Anna Chowcat as “absolutely fantastic”.

Ms Gill’s manifesto included a ‘find a housemate’ scheme, tackling higher fees and lobbying the Government for a loan system for postgraduates.

The postgraduate officer acts as chair of the Postgraduate Association, engages with non-traditional students and acts as an Liaison with the Graduate School and other University Departments on PG issues.

Mr Long campaigned for a 24/7 postgraduate hub, printer credits, capped library fings, more scholarships and improved transport to the University.
