Cheeky Chelsea on top form
After what seemed like a very long wait, the scandalous Made in Chelsea returned. Having lost some of our favourite, fiery socialites, the new series seemed destined to fail…. But a lot can happen in ten episodes and a Christmas special…
The first episode saw ‘Spenny’s’ return. He didn’t waste any time in declaring his love for Louise when they were reunited in stunning Saint-Tropez – odd considering he spent the summer insisting he was single on Channel 5’s The Bachelor. By this series, his arrogant manner is tiresome but apparently Louise still finds it charming (or maybe it’s the new beard) as she proves to be just as weak-willed as ever. She believed that Spencer had taken their ‘break’ too literally but succumbed immediately when he presumptuously booked them a hotel room. What a surprise! Fast forward to the Christmas special and Louise is left crying (again? Really?) as Spencer is accused of being unfaithful. He swears that he didn’t cheat on her … despite having plenty of opportunity … but some shifty looks from Jamie and a very convincing speech by Francis leave the girls doubtful.
Back to the first episode and nothing needs to be said about Spencer’s ridiculous one-liner to the valet, “Matthews.. Spencer Matthews”. After claiming that he was fine with Louise going for drinks with other men, he turned around and audaciously demanded that newcomer-Andy left the swimming pool, setting him straight. This turned out to be just the first of many arguments Andy would have with Spencer about a girl – the heated dinner party scene with Jamie and Lucy being a favourite. Despite my initial reservations, Andy’s friends Stevie and Sam do provide entertainment as the series progresses, particularly in their different approaches to rejecting Cheska. Stevie smiles a lot and tries to pretend Cheska isn’t desperately attacking him at Rosie’s dinner party and Sam breaks the world record for how many times someone can say ‘friends’ in one conversation.
The two personalities that made the biggest turn-around in the series were Ollie and Jamie. Ollie went from having a bit of a breakdown (cutting all his hair off – much better!) to reuniting with old-flame Gabriella for one night which led to her fleeing Chelsea. By the way, where has she gone? Poor Jamie looked set to be passed over again, this time by Binky. Instead, he seduced her, told her he could fall in love with her, and then took it all back the next day. Oh – and then later shouts at Andy for doing the same thing. Hypocritical?
Favourite character of the series: Millie. Despite not having much of her own storyline, she has some amazing moments. When Lucy asks why everyone is ‘getting up in her grill’, Millie laughs in her face, ‘Who even says that?’ She also manages to call Victoria a dog and smack Spencer round the face. Well done Millie.
After a shaky start, Made in Chelsea is definitely back in all its bitchy glory.
