New shuttle bus to postroom

**The Estates Office have introduced a new shuttle bus service to the post room after students raised concerns about the location relative to some halls of residence.**

The free bus operates Monday to Friday during the post room’s opening hours. The 30 minute circuit of campus starts on Library Road at 10.15am with the last departure at 5.15pm.

A statement from the Estates Office said: “We will run a trial of the service until Thursday December 20, at which point we’ll review it, and, depending on the use and ef- fectiveness of the service, continue to operate it beyond the Autumn term.”

Some students raised concerns that a bus service to the post room was not cost effective. Chloe Edwards, second-year French and Italian student called the initiative “a waste of University money”.

She said: ‘’When I was in Rootes last year, there was no bus ser- vice and we all managed just fine. I think it’s pretty pointless.’’

However, Anna Blackaby, Warwick’s International press officer said that the shuttle bus “was introduced in response to student demand for this service in order to provide better access to the post room”.

Nick Swain, SU President said that it was “ridiculous” that many students living on campus could not access their packages easily.

He said: “The distance from some halls to the post room has been a major problem for a lot of people. Disabled students or those unable to lift heavy loads had to get taxis. It was ridiculous.”

Mr Swain emphasised that the new shuttle bus was an “intermediate solution to a bigger problem of which the University was aware.”

In his manifesto, Mr Swain had been in favour of restoring the original post room in Rootes. However, he argued that today the University was in need of a larger, more central post room.

He said: “The University is aware that the Westwood post room is not ideal, but this is the best we can do at the moment.”
