Another environmental accolade for Warwick

**Warwick’s Estates team has won an Environment award for the second year running.**

The Heart of England in Bloom Environment award is part of the Royal Horticultural Society’s Britain in Bloom campaign and was presented to the Estates team for their “on-going holistic approach to supporting, protecting and enriching the biodiversity around the campus”.

The judges were impressed with the area surrounding Bluebell accommodation, which the grounds team filled with wild grass and flowers, transforming ditches into aesthetically pleasing wildlife habitats that encourage a wide range of plants and animals on campus.

One first-year English student from Bluebell said the award might make students more aware of the high level of upkeep needed to maintain the campus.

She added: “Most people don’t really pay too much attention to the plants and wildlife on campus, but there’s actually so much to look at if you take time to search it out. Maybe this award will encourage students to take an interest in the natural aspect of the campus.”

The Maintenance and Services sections of the Estates Office are directly responsible for all aspects of maintenance on the University’s 200 hectare estate.

Bob Wilson, Director of Estates said: “It’s great to see the continual hard work of the Estates Office grounds staff officially recognised for the second year running. This can only encourage us to keep up our excellent level of service on campus.”
