Bad weather floods campus

The Sherbourne area of campus has flooded as a result of the bad weather over the past week.

Fields near Varsity pub are so swamped that ducks have even been seen swimming across the water.

Weather conditions have made travel difficult for students across campus and particularly for those commuting from off-campus accommodation, for example, students who live in Leamington Spa.

George Beadle, who plays for the University of Warwick’s men’s football team, told the Boar: “We had to alter our running route because of the flooding, it was that bad.”

Railways and roads around the Birmingham and Coventry areas have been affected particularly badly by the storms and flooding, creating train cancellations, delays, and traffic congestion.

Hundreds of flood warnings are still in place across the UK, and the Environment Agency (EA) has warned of a continued risk of flooding, particularly in areas close to main rivers.

900 homes have already been flooded across the country, and four people have died. Bad weather is expected to continue in the Midlands and across the North-East and Wales.
