“We want more” say students in halls poll

Students across the UK are expecting more from their accommodation, according to a new poll by luxury student home provider, [Vitastudent.com](http://www.vitastudent.com/).

The survey questioned 400 UK undergraduate students about their expectations regarding the standard accommodation that they receive at university.

Unsurprisingly, over three quarters voted broadband as a must-have, saying it was important to have internet access to help with both studies and social networking.

34 percent would also insist on having an en-suite bathroom, often even choosing to opt for a less spacious bedroom in return for private bathroom facilities.

The survey also questioned student opinion on slightly unorthodox accommodation features, such as the need for an iPad in their room, with two percent actually insisting on it.

Having a TV in their room was quoted as ‘nice to have’ for 85 percent of those questioned, with 15 percent saying it was a must-have.

With accommodation at Warwick ranging between £78 per week for a small, modest room in Cryfield, and £150 per week for a larger, en-suite room in Bluebell, there is arguably a huge range of choice to suit many different budgets and expectations.

Third-year Physics student and ex-Rootes resident Callum White said: “The rooms were suitable for the price I paid.

“When you compare the price of accommodation at Warwick to those at other universities, they seem to be fairly good value.”

For example, a room at Kingston University could range from £92 to £175 per week, and at the University of Edinburgh, a room could cost up to a staggering £216 for a single week’s rent.

A spokesman from Vitastudent.com said: “We are well aware that students are more discerning than they were just a couple of years ago.

“Considering how much they’re spending on being a student – course fees and living expenses – then it’s no surprise they’re demanding higher standards and expect more for their money.”
