Campus NatWest to close

The campus branch of NatWest is to permanently close on Monday 16 April.

The bank has cited lack of trade to justify the closure and further branches are closing nationwide.

“I’m disappointed to a certain extent but we still have two other banks on campus, unlike other universities who only have a NatWest,” said Union Development Officer, George Whitworth. “I don’t personally think there is any need for more than one bank on campus,” he added.

There are currently no plans for the soon-to-be-vacant outlet but it is unlikely to become another bank.

The space is owned by the University rather than the Union, but Whitworth said the Union hope to have an influence on any decisions.

“I chose NatWest because it’s on campus,” said third-year student and Natwest customer Hannah Shillan, “I can do a lot of stuff online but it does take away that safety net.”

Coventry, Kenilworth and Leamington NatWest branches are to remain open.
