Cooking up a storm

A Warwick Conferences’ chef raised £800,000 in a cook-off for South Africa over the summer.

Graham Crump is no stranger to charity work, and has participated in projects such as British Food Fortnight, the Master Chefs Grand Prix, as well as cooking for the House of Commons in 2004.

The Bidvest World Chefs Tour Against Hunger aimed to raise 5,000,000 South African rand, enough to feed 300 children across Africa for five years. The team more than achieved this target, raising £800,000.

Approximately 250 chefs from 44 different countries gave cookery demonstrations in schools, held and prepared for food festivals and established feeding schemes in orphanages and schools in areas across South Africa. Crump was one of six chefs participating in the events as ‘Team England’, who cooked speciality dishes linked to our cultural heritage here in England.

“It was a really exhausting ten days, both physically and emotionally, but I would do it all over again,” said Graham, speaking to the Coventry Telegraph last week. He added: “I’m honoured to have been a part of such a momentous experience and thrilled with how much money we collectively raised.”
