Undergraduate student death in Leamington

Hannah Pickering, a second-year Theatre and Performance Studies student, died at home in Leamington on 4 May.

A Warwickshire Police spokeswoman said that Pickering’s death is being treated as unexplained but there were no suspicious circumstances and there will not be a police investigation at this stage. It is expected the coroner will conduct an inquest, at which point further details will be made public.

In a statement on the University website, the Head of the Theatre Department, Dr Nadine Holdsworth, said: “Hannah Pickering was a delightful young woman. A quiet and gentle presence within her year group, Hannah was hugely committed to her studies. She consistently displayed a strong creative imagination, alongside a willingness and ability to collaborate with others in her work. Staff and students are deeply shocked and saddened by Hannah’s death and our hearts go out to her family and friends.”

The Vice-Chancellor Professor Nigel Thrift said: “This sudden death brings great sadness to all of us in the University community. Hannah’s family and friends are very much in our thoughts at this sad time.”

The _Boar_ also offers its condolences to Pickering’s friends and family.
