Feeder and Chase & Status to headline Summer Party

It has been announced today that Feeder and Chase & Status will be the headline acts for this year’s Summer Party. They will be accompanied by Labrinth, R&B singer Yasmin and Welsh rock band The Blackout. Also playing are the already announced Los Campesinos! and openers Fly by Night, the winners of this year’s Battle of the Bands.

Attractions will include a bouncy castle, bungee run, human table football, an inflatable assault course and a free fairground with dodgems and a waltzer, whilst Curiositea will be ‘transported’ to a tent at the venue. In response to last year, there will also be a second tent showcasing the University’s own musical talent, featuring student acoustic artists that have played at Un-plucked this year, until the Audio Criminals take over from 5pm.

Entertainments Operations Manager Rob Chamberlain spoke to the _Boar_: “The point of the event since we changed it… is not to just boil everything down to one big headline… It’s much more about the day itself, the occasion… Feeder are obviously a band that cross a lot of boundaries and have had so many top ten hits you forget how many hits they’ve had… and they appeal across genres… I personally think the line-up’s stronger this year… Now that we’ve got the legacy of last year, people know what to expect from the event now. Hopefully it should be as successful, if not more so, than last year.” Chamberlain also underlined how informed the event is by students, emphasising how the Events Survey of last year informed the decisions made about the Summer Party.

One second-year student said: “The line-up, although not as good as last year, looks good, and with all the other attractions available, good drink offers and end-of-term exam relief it should be a fantastic day.”

Third-year English Literature and Creative Writing student Sophie Goodfellow commented: “I hadn’t heard of many of them… [However] I worked at the Summer Party last year, and everyone seemed to be having a great time.”

The party itself takes place Sunday June 26 in the fields behind University House, with entry from 12pm. The party will run until 11pm, after which there will be an after party in the Copper Rooms until 4am. Tickets go on sale May 3, £38 adv.
