Women’s Football bravely go down to Kenilworth

A gutsy display from ten man Warwick was not enough to prevent a strong Kenilworth Town side from continuing their push for the title with a 4 -0 win in the Birmingham County Women’s League.

In an even opening fifteen minutes both teams created chances but were unable to convert them until an individual mistake on the left gifted the ball to the Kenilworth striker who dispatched her shot coolly past the advancing Warwick keeper to make it 1 – 0 at half time.

Throughout the second half Kenilworth had the majority of possession, however Warwick battled hard with impressive displays from midfielders Lisa Infantino and Hilary Watson and even managed to carve out a few opportunities of their own when they caught Kenilworth on the break.

Ultimately though, Kenilworth made their numerical advantage count and added two goals, one of which belonging to Larissa Windsor who neatly controlled the ball on her knee before volleying it into the top left hand corner of the net from the edge of the 18-yard area.

Warwick continued to rally but Kenilworth were equal to them and reinforced their challenge for the title by adding a further goal to their tally in the final 15 minutes. Although Kenilworth were the stronger team, Warwick showed signs of promise and they will look to build on these as the season continues.
