RAISE
Leamington isn’t a hotspot for nightlife but it’s certainly fair to suggest that Warwick students take what they’re given, and make the best of it. EVE – the lovechild of several ex – Warwicker’s at the Smack nightclub in town is a prime example of this. Now, thanks to a select few charitable hedonists, Eve lives on and continues to be one of the best club nights in Leamington. So, if you like EVE, the brains behind Warwick’s charity venture have sought pastures new – as the new generation take the Leamington night to new heights, the old school are tackling the London scene with new project RAISE.
In front of the charity ethos will be a stand-alone, premier league bass-night at one of the country’s best small clubs, Corsica Studios. Behind it is a wider aim to cultivate sustainable, creative events which excite young peoples’ skill sets: the new EVE team has already beaten last year’s record for money raised in a single night. By the middle of 2011, the combined efforts of the Warwick and London teams will mean that a total of over £20,000 will have been generated.
RAISE itself will showcase the best sets of bass-music money can buy; and owing to Raise’s status as the only regular dubstep night for charity in the capital, this will include an array of exclusive performances and special back to back sets.
The £8,500 raised by last year’s EVE team went to Save The Children and their project in Kroo Bay, Sierra Leone – where one in four children dies before they’re five years old. On pastures new, RAISE continues this commitment to the Kroo Bay project, endeavouring to improve basic healthcare in less economically developed countries. This year’s EVE is exclusively supporting Every Child, an international development charity committed to protecting the rights of the world’s most vulnerable and marginalised children.
RAISE adopts a transparency policy, and the whole project’s financial progress, what money is spent and how much profit is made from each night, will be available to view on their website. Through the site, the organizers will engage with RAISE attendees and gauge their opinions on where some of the money may go. The London launch will feature dubstep heavyweight Coki, as well as pioneers in jungle, grime, UK garage and dancehall. For those nearer the south coast, look out, as the boys aren’t stopping at London and plan to have new regular bass-night in Brighton at the beginning of summer time.
