Women not aging well
Research conducted by a Warwick researcher in collaboration with Harvard Medical School has found that women who gain weight as they age are 80 per cent less likely to grow into a healthy old age.
It was concluded that every kilogram gained after 18 decreases the likelihood of a “successful old age” by five per cent. The researchers defined successful old age reaching 70 years old without any major chronic disease, with no major cognitive or physical limitation.
Dr Oscar Franco, Assistant Clinical Professor of Public Health at Warwick Medical School, used research from over 100,000 nurses in the USA gathered since 1976.
