Rebuild to disrupt buses

The second phase of the Students’ Union rebuild will begin near the end of this term, closing of Tempo from week ten and most of the Piazza from week eight. The bus stops and taxi rank will be relocated.

As Tempo will be unavailable, Union events during week ten will be moved to other venues. Top Banana will take place at Grad@Cholo and Score will take place at Evolve in Leamington Spa.

The bus stops, currently outside the Arts Centre and Sports Centre, will both be relocated to Library Road, near the pedestrian bridge.

The taxi rank will move to the location of the current Arts Centre bus stop, near the Rootes Social Building. University Road will also become a one-way system in the area surrounding the rebuild, and Car Park 5, next to the Piazza, will remain closed.

The changes are being made to accommodate health and safety requirements for the construction of the new Union building.

The Piazza will be closed from 23 February to facilitate work on the front of the Union building.

The work will be complete in time for the 2009-2010 academic year and will provide several new venues. Though most of the Piazza will be boarded shut during the construction, there will be access to the banks and the back of the union.

Phase one of the rebuild will open by the start of Term Three, and will feature the new pub, the Dirty Duck, as well as a new 2,400-person capacity nightclub.
