Death inquest

An inquest into the death of Warwick Student Jason Venezia has identified the cause of death as extreme alcohol poisoning.

According to evidence heard at Coventry Coroner’s court, the first year student was involved in drinking games the night before his death.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Nigel Thrift, expressed his sadness at the death and highlighted that the University runs a number of guidance services on this and other issues. However he said that ultimately it was a question of striking the balance between ‘independence and guidance’ stating that students at the University are adults and that they have a responsibility to drink sensibly.
