Letters: Reflecting on OWW

Dear Sir,

I want to express my gratitude to the entire One World Forum team, who did a spectacular job organising last week’s talks and discussions.

We had heated arguments on deforestation, reflections on the current political disenchantment, debates on where to draw the line between our freedoms and our security, and the future of Eastern Europe and the developing world.

The overwhelming audience turnout was a credit to the nearly year-long work of the team.

Forum is one of the many branches of One World Week. Keeping the talks free is a central strength of the Forum and without the hard work of all the other team members this would not be possible.

The idea that a “One World” can exist is a radical one. We are still divided by massive divergences in wealth, ancient religious and territorial disputes, and intolerance of other cultures and peoples.

One World Week by itself cannot overcome these barriers, but it is part of global effort to bridge our differences and fight for a more integrated and just world. It has been a privilege to be a part of it.

Yours faithfully,
Bruno Leipold
Forum Chair
