Make your mark! Voting kicks off in 2026 SU Spring Officer Elections

Posters, flyers, and placards will adorn every inch of campus this week, as voting in the Warwick Students’ Union (SU) Spring Officer elections takes place.

Warwick students have their annual opportunity to decide who leads their SU this week, with voting now open for your next President and team of Full-time and Part-time Officers.

Voting in the elections opened today (Monday 9 March) at 9am and will close at 5pm on Friday (13 March). You can cast your vote here

54 candidates are standing for election to a total of 12 positions, which remain unchanged from last year.

This comes despite an external report last June suggesting that the SU should scrap the paid positions of Democracy and Development Officer and Postgraduate Officer, as well as restructuring other roles acrossthe SU. No changes have yet been implemented by the SU.

Candidates for all positions, whether it be the paid Full-Time Officer roles or unpaid Part-Time Officer roles, will be quizzed by students and student media alike in hustings events, taking place tonight and tomorrow, with coverage of both nights taking place across The Boar and RAW’s social media and YouTube channels.

The Boar has also given all full-time officer candidates the opportunity to share their manifesto pledges and ideas for the SU in short interviews, which will be shared across The Boar’s social media and website this week.

While turnout for what ended up being a unique set of elections last year rose to 24% of the student population, there are still concerns that not enough students are engaged in on-campus democracy.

Many students aren’t aware, for example, what each officer role involves. Full-time officers directly lead the SU, make decisions on policy changes, support and represent the student community, and act as a trustee for the SU’s charitable operations.

Voting in this year’s SU Spring Elections will remain open until this Friday (13 March) at 5pm

Part-time officers, while unpaid, still play an important part of the SU, advocating for and representing students from across the student body. Like their full-time counterparts, they attend SU meetings and support on shaping the Union’s future policies.

With perennial issues such as the cost-of-living crisis and mental health provision likely to appear in conversations across campus this week, all eyes will turn to the Dirty Duck this Friday where, barring any ‘procedural irregularity’, election results will be announced in front of an eager crowd.

In just a few days, Warwick will know its next set of sabbatical officers who will be ready to lead the SU into the 2026/27 academic year.

Voting in this year’s SU Spring Elections will remain open until this Friday (13 March) at 5pm. You can follow full coverage of the election results across The Boar’s website and social media from 6.30pm on Friday.
