Councillor voted honorary freeman of Warwickshire

Jerry Roodhouse, the longest serving county councillor in Warwickshire, has been bestowed the position of honorary freeman of Warwickshire.

It is the first time in decades that anyone has been awarded such an accolade. The position provides no direct privileges but is still a significant honour.

It is granted to a highly valued member of the community to show appreciation for their efforts. Roodhouse has earnt the title after 35 years of service to Rugby and Warwickshire.

Roodhouse was first elected in 1990 as a member of the Rugby Borough Council, and he then swiftly became a member of the County Council in 1993. He has since gone on to be the Mayor of the Rugby Borough Council and a school governor. He currently leads the Liberal Democrat Party at borough and county levels, as well as sitting on the County Council Overview and Scrutiny committees.

He is beloved by constituents after a such a strong and consistent performance in local government and the community

The motion was unanimously supported by the other members of the Warwickshire County Council on October 14. This is largely due to his diligent campaigning in health and social care, protecting green areas, local policing, and within community groups, most notably with AgeUK. He is beloved by constituents after a such a strong and consistent performance in local government and the community.

Despite not being originally from the area, Councillor Roodhouse refers to both Warwickshire and Rugby fondly, perceiving it to be his ‘home’. Such sentiments are clearly reflected in his three decades of dedicated service, and hopefully there are many more successful years in his career in local government.
