The epic comeback of Smosh Summer Games: Highlights from the 2025 Season
For long-time fans of Smosh, the return of Smosh Summer Games after a six-year hiatus is nothing short of legendary. As someone who first stumbled across Smosh through the Smosh Summer Games: Wild West series, seeing the gang (old faces and new) back in action has been the highlight of my summer.
For those of you who may not know, Smosh Summer Games is a fan-favourite YouTube series that brings out the most chaotic and competitive side of Smosh. Each season features teams battling it out in hilarious physical and mental challenges, all tied together by a central fun theme.
And now, in 2025, after many teasers, fan theories, and a lot of waiting, the beloved series is back … with a nostalgic twist.
- Smosh Summer Games: Class of 2005 Trailer (Smosh)
In their first video released on 28 July, this year’s theme was revealed as Smosh Summer Games: Class of 2005, a retro, high-school-inspired throwback. The series kicked off with an official trailer that set the tone perfectly. Watch it here.
- Smosh Summer Games Returns (Smosh Mouth: Ep. 104)
In their next video, they switched to their podcast channel, Smoshcast and their popular podcast series Smosh Mouth. In their 104th episode, the teams of this year’s series were announced – two rival high schools: The Hollywood Hotdogs vs. The Downtown Dairy Cows.
- Back to School Vlog (Smosh Pit)
Switching to the Smosh Pit channel, the next video was a behind-the-scenes, vlog-style video designed as a fun nod to the Smosh Pit: Squad Vlogs era. It gave viewers a brief glimpse of the cast gearing up for the games, including an exclusive look at the high school where they would be filming.
The game revealed one of the biggest twists in Summer Games history
- Get 7th IRL (Smosh Games)
On 6 August, the Games officially began, with the Smosh Games channel posting the very first competition: Get 7th IRL. The rules are simple: whoever comes seventh gets the most points – coming first isn’t the main goal. The competition saw the cast competing in three games: the 50ft dash, the vertical leap, and the football throw, all of which were played without the cast knowing where they stood until the very end. Watch the video to find out who landed in seventh and which team won overall.
- Who Is Most Likely To … (Smosh Pit)
The very next day, the second competition was posted on the Smosh Pit channel. A classic “most likely to …” game. One person at a time was asked a specific “high-school” themed question, such as “Who on your team is the biggest teacher’s pet” or “Who on your team is most likely to cheat on a test?”. The game was high stakes and eventually came down to a tiebreaker. Click here to find out which team came out victorious.
- Darts: The Elimination (Smosh Games)
The next day, we were back on the Smosh Games channel with my personal favourite competition of the series: Darts: The Elimination. The cast were placed in a classic classroom setting, all sat at individual desks. Special guest, Anthony Padilla, was brought in as their substitute teacher with a dartboard strapped to his back. Every time he turned away, one person (whose name was chosen from a bowl of names) was tasked with throwing a dart at the board, without getting caught. Those who were caught were eliminated from the game. After four players had been eliminated, the game revealed one of the biggest twists in Summer Games history – the emergence of a third team: The Detention Degenerates.
- School Is In Session (Smosh Pit: Reading Reddit Stories)
Taking a break from the competition, Saturday saw the regular posting of a Reading Reddit Stories episode on the Smosh Pit channel, but this time with a Summer Games twist. This special episode saw host Shayne, and cast members Damien and Angela react to ‘back-to-school’ themed stories submitted on Reddit.
While this episode didn’t affect the overall Summer Games standings, it was a perfect mid-season breather
- Giant Throw Throw Burrito (Smosh Games)
In another break from the main competition, a handful of the cast took part in a chaotic card game of Throw Throw Burrito in the high school’s cafeteria, exquisitely decorated by the Smosh art department. The cast battled it out against each other in a dodgeball-style party game, only instead of rubber balls, they hurled giant inflatable burritos at each other. While this episode didn’t affect the overall Summer Games standings, it was a perfect mid-season breather.
- We Got Detention (Smosh Mouth: Ep. 105)
In their next weekly episode of Smosh Mouth, recorded in the high school’s library, co-hosts Amanda and Shayne brought on Spencer to talk about the competition so far, including the surprise emergence of a third team: The Detention Degenerates. Together, they talked about their predictions, highlights, and favourite rivalries so far, including some rumours of cheating by a few of the cast members.
- Silent Library In A Real Library (Smosh Pit)
In this special instalment, the entire cast entered a real high school library for a Silent Library-style challenge, testing their ability to endure ridiculous tasks without making a sound. Bringing on MacDoesIt as the school’s librarian, this video saw each cast member get eliminated until only one remained. Watch this challenge to see who triumphed over the rest.
Points were based on speed and accuracy, and, as expected, came down to a tense tiebreaker
- Study Hall Relay (Smosh Games)
In the fourth official competition of the Games, the three teams – Hollywood Hotdogs, Downtown Dairy Cows, and the newly formed Detention Degenerates – competed in an energetic Study Hall Relay. The video was full of high school themed challenges including folding paper airplanes, relaying whispered messages, deciphering charades, and hunting for hidden items, all under the watch of special guest, Amanda. To keep everyone on their toes, mistakes brought penalties that could make or break a team’s overall standing.
- Beopardy: The Physical Challenge (Smosh Pit)
For their fifth competition, released on 14 August, the familiar quiz-show format met physical hilarity. Aptly renamed for copyright reasons, the Beopardy board featured categories that required two-part answers, like ‘Which U.S. president appears on the quarter?’ and ‘What was the name of the 2005 hurricane that devastated New Orleans?’. The teams had to race to find the answers hidden in oversized school-themed props: a giant backpack, sports bag, and lunchbox. Points were based on speed and accuracy, and, as expected, came down to a tense tiebreaker. Click here to find out the result.
- The Promposal Finale (Smosh Games)
It all came down to this – the final game of the competition. Each cast member was challenged to stage a promposal, asking none other than special guest bbno$ to the prom. In addition to bbno$’s simple “yes” or “no” response to each rehearsed promposal, contestants were also scored by three judges: Anthony Padilla, Amanda Lehan-Canto, and Elyse Willems. The promposals featured everything, including dramatic monologues, impressive basketball tricks, original songs, and even a surprise flash mob. While each contestant performed solo, they were ultimately competing for their team. At the end of the event, Superintendent Damien Haas announced the winners of the Games. Want to know who took the crown? Watch the finale here.
Smosh Summer Games: Class of 2005 delivered everything I could have hoped for
- Ultimate Betrayal Stories (Smosh Pit: Reading Reddit Stories)
Another Saturday saw another Reading Reddit Stories episode. With the Games now over, this video felt like a return to the classic comfort of Smosh Pit’s signature storytelling series. A solid reminder that, even without the Games, the channel still continues to thrive with high energy.
- Our Biggest Moose Master Ever (Smosh Games)
And just when we thought the post-Summer Games blues would be too much, Sunday 17 August, saw a select few of the cast play a wild game of Moose Master. This silly party game has one person, the Moose Master, make up weird rules that everyone else has to follow (eg. “you must moo before speaking”). Players take turns drawing cards that either add more silly rules to the game or catch other players breaking the rules. If you break a rule, you draw a card. Collect too many cards, and you lose.
Smosh Summer Games: Class of 2005 delivered everything I could have hoped for. Whether you were rooting for the Hollywood Hotdogs, the Downtown Dairy Cows, or the wildcard Detention Degenerates, this year’s return proved just how good Smosh can be, even after six long years. I think it’s safe to say that Smosh Summer Games is back, and it’s better than ever.
