Explore the world without leaving campus

At Warwick, adventure begins long before you even set foot on a plane. Societies here turn curiosity into journeys that stretch across countries and cultures.

Campus is bustling with opportunities to discover different cultures in between lectures and late-night study sessions. Warwick’s travel and cultural societies provide your ticket to a world beyond lecture rooms, offering everything from planned trips throughout Europe to language cafés that captivate you with conversation.

Warwick Travel Society

One of the newest societies on campus, Warwick Travel Society, has already demonstrated that it means business, or rather, adventure.

Since officially becoming an SU society, they’ve ticked off Morocco’s bustling souks and Albania’s sunny coastlines, creating itineraries that balance well-known landmarks with hidden treasures. But this isn’t your standard packaged holiday experience.

With more trips planned this year, this society is the perfect place to unleash your inner adventurer

Warwick Travel Society is all about building a like-minded community of travellers. Trips are designed by students, for students, which means you will be exploring with people just as eager to swap stories and discover hidden cafés as you are. With more trips planned this year, this society is the perfect place to unleash your inner adventurer.

Duke of Edinburgh’s Society

If your idea of travel leans more towards hiking boots than hotel rooms, The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Society might be your perfect match.

As one of the UK’s few student-led DofE centres, this society offers a clear pathway to completing the Gold DofE award – a prestigious challenge that combines leadership, volunteering, skill development, and adventure.

And adventure is at the heart of it. Picture yourself trekking through Snowdonia’s rugged peaks or camping beneath the stars in the Brecon Beacons. The society organises two major expeditions alongside residential experiences that could take you anywhere from environmental projects to team-building retreats.

DofE Society provides training, equipment, and practice trips to get you expedition ready

Don’t worry if you’re not yet an outdoor expert – DofE Society provides training, equipment, and practice trips to get you expedition ready. Even if you’re not chasing the award itself, you can join their socials and day hikes, making it a welcoming community for anyone craving fresh air and a challenge.

Warwick Language Society

At Warwick, you don’t need a plane ticket to immerse yourself in another culture.

Our Language Society turns campus into a global meeting place, hosting weekly language cafés where students gather to practice languages over coffee in a relaxed, laughter-filled atmosphere.

Whether you’re perfecting your Spanish or trying out your first words in Japanese, there is a space for everyone.

Joining Language Society is less about memorising vocabulary and more about cultivating curiosity.

The Buddy Scheme pairs you with native or fluent speakers for personalised language exchanges, and free classes are offered to help you build your confidence. Beyond conversation, the society’s socials (pub quizzes, international film nights, and trips to cultural hotspots) offer a deeper connection to global traditions. Joining Language Society is less about memorising vocabulary and more about cultivating curiosity.

In an hour-long café chat, you might end up travelling the world through accents, anecdotes, and laughter, all without leaving the SU building.

Cultural Societies

Warwick’s international community is one of its greatest strengths, and cultural societies offer a unique window into that diversity. The Filipino, French, German, and India societies (to name only a few) act as microcosms of their cultures, bringing campus to life through food festivals, music nights, and holiday celebrations. Many also organise cultural trips, for example, a weekend in Paris, a day wandering London’s Chinatown, or visits to historic landmarks.

With a variety of societies listed in the SU website, you could quite literally explore the globe from campus

You don’t need to share the heritage to join in – these societies welcome everyone, offering a chance to experience traditions, humour, and community spirit. With a variety of societies listed in the SU website, you could quite literally explore the globe from campus.

Society Tours

It’s not just travel-focused societies that take you places. At Warwick, even societies that aren’t strictly about travel – such as choirs, dance clubs, and sports teams – regularly organise tours across Europe or the UK. These trips often blend cultural exploration with competitions or performances, making them the perfect way to see new places while deepening friendships.

So, whether you join for the beaches of Barcelona, the castles of Prague, or the thrill of performing on a foreign stage, society tours are a reminder that Warwick’s adventurous spirit extends far beyond “travel” societies alone.

The next unforgettable journey could start not at Birmingham airport, but right here on campus
