Burgundy is back! The latest nail trends for A/W 2025

As summer has well and truly left us and autumn is in full swing (thanks, Great British weather), people have begun to put away their flip-flops and shorts to dig out their hats and scarves and prepare for the seasons ahead. With that change also comes a change in nail trends. For 2025, they look very similar to previous years and to the summer trends, as the versatility remains attractive to all nail salon attendees.

Summer favourites
As mentioned, several of the summer’s most popular nail designs seem to have snuck their way onto the autumn roster too, the most notable of which is polka dots. I have to say that I myself was absolutely captivated by this design and chose a monochrome polka dot set during my most recent trip to the nail salon. Thanks to the ability to present this design in various colour combinations, polka dots are still all over social media, and I imagine they will remain popular in the future too.

In a similar fashion to last year, the colour of the season is without a doubt burgundy

Another style that maintains its popularity is leopard print. Whether it’s a full set or just a French tip, the design is perfect for transitioning from summer to autumn and remains popular online thanks to its warm colours and muted tones. Personally, this one is not for me, although I can see why it is a popular design, especially at this time of year.

Finally, from this summer, the moulded, 3D gel trend remains a popular choice to jazz up any nail set. You name it: from moulded flowers to seashells and water droplets, it was probably moulded onto someone’s nail over the summer. However, I will be interested to see how this progresses as we enter autumn – will we see leaves and pumpkins added to this list of sculpted objects?

Autumnal classics
Now for some familiar favourites. In a similar fashion to last year, the colour of the season is without a doubt burgundy. This is something I can get behind. Having been planning my next nail set since I left the salon three weeks ago, this is absolutely at the top of my list. To be honest, this colour can be applied to any of the previously mentioned designs – I have definitely seen a burgundy combination of all of the above during my endless Pinterest scrolling for nail inspiration!

Thanks to its incredibly warm tone, this shade is very popular for September. It will also provide a great transition into the Christmas season, which often sees reds and burgundies on almost every set.

I’m sure that nail salons across the world will be receiving many design requests for a ghost or two from their customers

Continuing the warm-tone theme, another seasonal favourite is brown, which is again incredibly versatile. One of the only downsides of a slightly bolder colour, such as burgundy, is that you can’t guarantee that your nails will match all of your outfits. Still, this is much easier to achieve with a more neutral brown shade. Again, this will also act as a brilliant Christmas transition shade, and I am sure we will see lots more brown as we enter the winter months.

And finally, the classic for this time of year: a Halloween set. I’m sure that nail salons across the world will be receiving many design requests for a ghost or two from their customers. Whether you go all-out with pumpkins, witches, and skeletons galore, or go for a more subtle black-themed set, a new set of nails is the perfect way to get into the spirit of the spooky season.

It won’t be long until it’s all candy canes and gingerbread men, and there won’t be an autumnal shade in sight. But for now, it’s safe to say the warm tones are definitely the dominant style of the season.
