Pret A Manger announces plans to open first store in Leamington this summer

Students in Leamington who crave Pret A Manger but don’t fancy coming to campus will soon have reason to celebrate, as the popular chain is set to open its first Leamington branch this summer.

The new store will be part of an expansion of the Morrisons petrol station on Old Warwick Street and will be operated by the Motor Fuel Group, one of Pret’s long-standing franchise partners.

The opening is expected to create ten new jobs and will offer seating for up to thirty customers.

The Leamington Spa branch will serve all of Pret’s usual favourites – from hot and cold drinks (the latter of which will likely be popular in their first few weeks) to fresh pastries, as well as a range of sandwiches and salad bowls.

In line with Pret’s ongoing commitment to reducing food waste, any unsold food will be donated to those in need through the Pret Foundation who work with local charities, such as the Trussell Trust food bank.

Over the past few years, we’ve been busy bringing our freshly prepared food and organic coffee to towns across the country, so it was about time we opened our doors in Leamington Spa

Pret A Manger opened its first shop in London in 1986, and has since grown into a global brand, with over 700 locations across countries including India, Hong Kong, Canada, the UAE, and Spain.

Speaking about the new store, Sam Otterburn, Head of Franchise UK & Europe at Pret A Manger, said: “Over the past few years, we’ve been busy bringing our freshly prepared food and organic coffee to towns across the country, so it was about time we opened our doors in Leamington Spa.

“I’m really pleased that, together with our franchise partner Motor Fuel Group, we’ll soon be serving locals, visitors, and those just passing through when we open later this summer.”

It is not the first time that Pret A Manger has mooted opening a store in Leamington. Last year, the company submitted a planning application to open a store at Leamington Shopping Park.

However, despite permission being granted, it seems like plans for the store were halted, with no signs of a Pret opening at the shopping park any time soon. Students will have to be content with just one Pret in Leamington, at least for the time being.

No official opening date has been confirmed yet, but students and locals can look forward to a fresh new addition to the town’s food scene in the coming months.
