Top tips to adjusting to term three at university

The third term of university often feels daunting – the long Easter break is over all too soon, and you are faced with a marathon of end-of-term classes, deadlines, and exams. However, with healthy habits and a clear plan, this final term can be a chance to prove to yourself how much you’ve grown and how prepared you can be to end this academic year on a high. So, what can you do to set yourself up for a well-balanced and successful third term?

1. Get organised
For most students, the third term carries the heaviest workload, and it can be overwhelming to know where to begin. This is where a study plan is essential – simply having a visual of when each deadline and exam falls can help you to prioritise your revision and avoid last-minute stress. Platforms such as Notion and TimeTree can help you to structure your study. Plans must be realistic – set manageable goals that won’t burn you out. Most importantly, schedule time for relaxing and socialising. Whilst the final few weeks of the year are academically demanding, they are also a time to enjoy the sun with your friends before you all head home for the summer break!

2. Support network
On and off campus, a wide range of support is available to help carry you through this final stretch. Study cafés, personal tutors, the Wellbeing Team and other people on your course are all there to help you manage your workload and care for yourself. Don’t be afraid to reach out to those around you for support; a little help from someone else can go a long way, and chances are, most people are feeling the pressure too! From academic to mental health support, there is always someone there to help – taking advantage of the support available never hurts.

3. Socialise
Exams and coursework are a priority during the final stretch of the university year, but this doesn’t mean you can’t have a social life too. Connecting with friends, joining in with society events, and even a quick pint at the Dirty Duck after a long day at the library will help you to wind down during this hectic season. 5. Focus on yourself
Don’t get caught up in how everyone else appears to be navigating this final stretch – everyone has a unique approach, and what works for someone else might not be right for you. While it can be incredibly helpful to connect with others during this period, it is also important to focus on yourself. Whether it’s keeping a journal, watching your favourite Netflix series, or simply going for a summery walk around campus, setting aside time for yourself can alleviate stress and allow you to refocus.

As you step into the third term, remember that you made it to university for a reason; you are capable of whatever you need to do to succeed this year.
