Chelsea WFC secure domestic treble with dominant FA Cup Final victory

Bompastor’s Blues have secured silverware for the third time this season after completely dominating Manchester United Women in the Women’s FA Cup final.

Despite the heartbreak of missing out on a place in the UEFA Women’s Champions League final this past 2024/25 season, the Chelsea Women did not allow themselves to be demoralized. Manchester United may have won the FA Cup last year, but Chelsea loosened their grip on the trophy by thrashing the Manchester United Women 3-0 in the final, with all three goals being scored in the 45th minute and upwards. Both the opening and final goals were scored by French international, Sandy Baltimore, the former coming from the penalty spot after Celin Bezet clumsily fouled Erin Cuthbert in the box, whilst the latter was catapulted in by Baltimore’s strong left foot into the top left corner in the 91st minute. The 10 minutes of added time would have perhaps been more nail-biting if Chelsea were not comfortably 3-0 up. As well as her two goals, Baltimore’s silky free kick connected with Brazilian international, Catarina Macario’s head in the 84th minute. Her three goal involvements rightly earned her Player of the Match – not a terrible way for Sandy Baltimore to end her debut season at Chelsea WFC, right?

The Blues boss also managed them to an invincible season in all three domestic competitions

This victory was not the first time Chelsea had secured silverware by beating Manchester United this season; the Blues’ 1-0 win against the Red Devils in the WSL earned them the title in April and Manchester United’s Women were forced to watch Chelsea lift another trophy after their FA Cup win. Thus, Chelsea Women’s Football Club finished off their season by securing the domestic treble in front of an audience of 74, 412 at Wembley Stadium, alongside winning the FA Cup for the staggering sixth time.

We must not forget that it was also Sonia Bompastor’s debut season managing the football club; prior to this win, the Blues had already won the WSL and the League Cup. She has contributed to the legacy of Chelsea WFC being the most successful women’s team in England by helping them obtain the treble again, which they most recently won in the 2019/20 season. The Blues boss also managed them to an invincible season in which Chelsea WFC were undefeated in all three domestic competitions.

Bompastor described the FA Cup win as “almost the ideal way to end the season”</span

Sonia Bompastor described how the team struggled in the first ten minutes but quickly got into the swing of things, “We were stronger, we deserved to win, and we were in control of the game for almost the rest of the game.”

Even though they had just won the treble, Bompastor remained calm, collected and humble, describing the FA Cup win as “almost the ideal way to end the season”. Her reflection was perhaps undercut by the unfortunate UEFA Champions League semi-final loss, which would have earned Chelsea a fourth trophy had they progressed to the final and won. However, I have high hopes that next season, Chelsea WFC really can win it all…
