Spring fashion trends

Daffodils and snowdrops are now in full bloom, the birds are chirping, and the sun has finally appeared after what felt like a never-ending winter. Spring is a time for new beginnings, going on walks through parks, and having drinks with friends out in a warm pub garden. As England seems to be returning to life, there is never a better time to add something fresh to your wardrobe. Here is a list of what will be the biggest fashion trends this season.

Polka Dots
Polka dots are having another revival this spring. Patterns are in, and what is a more iconic and divisive pattern than the humble polka dot? The polka dot experienced a rise in popularity due to an embracement of all things twee back in 2022. As the character Jessica Day, fashion inspiration to all lovers of twee, in ‘Jess & Julia’ from New Girl said: “I rock a lot of polka dots.” In 2025, polka dots are no longer cutesy and quaint but are cool and chic. In the 2025 revival of the trend, bright colours will be replaced with elegant dresses or matching sets in navy or black with white polka dots. Or, my personal favourite, black mesh with black polka dots. Polka dots also don’t have to be limited to clothing. It can make for a very fun nail trend, which is easy to replicate at home with your nail polish.

Boho Chic
Boho chic is inspired by the hippie movement of the ’60s and ’70s and embraces a free-spirited nature through clothing. It includes leather, studded bags and shoes, ponchos, paisley, and fringe – a lot of fringe. It is a fashion trend that will probably have its resurgence every 20 years or so, but what makes the 2025 iteration of boho chic different is a softer approach to this style. Soft, white billowy tops and dresses with earthy brown suede bags will probably be the staple pieces for boho chic this spring. Feminine shapes and materials are used, which are translated into boho chic for a more romantic and minimalist look. The best part of boho chic is that its roots in the hippie movement mean that it embraces individuality and a love for the environment. This makes the trend perfect for a charity shop spree as it guarantees unique pieces that will add an individual element to your wardrobe whilst being sustainable.

See-Through Fabric
The release of a new Bridget Jones movie is the perfect time to take inspiration from the beloved character herself. In the first movie, she wears a sheer top that successfully garners Hugh Grant’s character’s attention. But we’re taking it a step further into sheer dresses and skirts. Not only is this style fun and flirty, but it allows for more experimentation with layering. The see-through fabric allows for more items of clothing to be paired on top of each other. The multiple layers allow for more play with colours, patterns, and fabrics, as the bottom and outer sheer layers work together to create a complete look.  For example, lace can be layered as the added texture makes the outfit more interesting. Lace is also very adaptable to personal style and can be used to create an elegant, classic look. Take inspiration from Sabrina Carpenter. Her iconic lace catsuit is both risqué and playful.

Butter Yellow
Pastels have a resurgence every spring, and 2025 will be no different with powder pinks and soft blues. In my opinion, the standout colour this season will be butter yellow. It is a soft, warm colour, the perfect mix between bright and sunny with muted and subtle. It is the perfect colour to please everyone. My personal favourite ways of incorporating this colour into outfits are through accessories such as headscarves and bags, as it works well as a neutral colour to complete an outfit. Denim is also a great combination. So, butter yellow will look amazing matched with jeans or a denim skirt, which many people already have in their wardrobe!
