Mindful Moments: what is ‘feminine energy’?

Last week, while having a lovely day out in Stratford-upon-Avon, I came across a beautiful crystal shop. I am not someone who is particularly interested in crystals or astrology; however, I am currently trying to be open to other ways of thinking and new ideas. So, I bought a crystal most aligned with my current needs: the rose quartz. Associated with emotional healing and self-love, holding the rose quartz gave me a wave of relief and peace. This got me thinking about other ideas I had previously been shut off to, and so I started doing some research into spirituality and crystals. Through this, I came across the term ‘feminine energy’.

I truly feel that some parts of ‘feminine energy’ can become valuable lessons you take into your day to day life

Feminine energy is all about adopting traits such as intuition, creativity, and receptivity. A common misconception is that terms such as ‘feminine’ and ‘masculine’ energy feed into gender stereotypes, ultimately limiting people to specific traits. However, having listened to many podcasts and researched the ins and outs of these concepts, it is clear that ‘feminine energy’ is so much more than this. Even if you are not someone who particularly believes in ‘energy’ or the ‘universe’, which quite honestly, I am not sure I believe in either, I truly feel that some parts of ‘feminine energy’ can become valuable lessons you take into your day to day life.

While it is difficult to define what feminine or masculine energy is, it has long been interpreted as a subjective, personal feeling. It is completely fluid, as anyone can feel a bit of ‘feminine’ or ‘masculine’ energy. Of course, it is important not to look at these terms in a binary way. However, for me personally, I was particularly interested in trying to adopt some traits associated with ‘feminine energy’. As someone who gets stressed very easily and prefers to force outcomes instead of going with the flow, I found ideas around ‘feminine energy’ very insightful. With ‘feminine energy’ being more about living in the present moment and allowing experiences and people to come to you, this can be a rather beautiful way to experience life. Incorporating these qualities into my life did not happen overnight, and will likely be a long journey, however, there are some easy steps to take to begin this journey.

An important step for me has been journaling. By writing down ways that I can live in the current moment, such as solo dates and walks in nature, I am actively visualising ways that I can enjoy small moments. Every morning, by writing three things I am grateful for and planning the day, I have been slowly learning how to focus on the day ahead instead of long-term outcomes, which aligns with my ‘feminine energy.’ Within other areas of my life I would previously reach out first to people or try and make situations happen. Instead, I am writing about accepting and allowing love to come to me, instead of it always being the other way around. This aligns with the ideas that someone in touch with their feminine energy will be open to receiving and open to new experiences. Since I have begun to focus on fostering these character traits, I have felt more at peace and so much more mindful.

Do not be shut off to new ways of experiencing life based on common misconceptions, as there can be valuable lessons to be learned through all sorts of beliefs and ideas

Of course, there are times when embracing masculine energy is important and necessary. With masculine energy being associated with directness and being driven, I can value these traits within myself when it comes to university or career opportunities. However, when it comes to my social life and daily activities, I have felt much more in tune with myself since learning about the importance of embracing ‘feminine energy’, instead of seeing it as weak or inferior.

Leaning more into your feminine or masculine energy is not right or wrong – it should simply be about what feels right for you. Through looking at feminine energy traits, I have found that these are traits I aspire to have as they make me feel calmer and I feel more in touch with my emotional needs. However, you might realise that you feel most in tune with yourself when being direct and driven.

For most people, ideas around different energies can be seen as far-reaching or strange, and even I do not fully understand my position on these ideas. Yet I do know that, regardless of beliefs, researching different traits and attempting to align yourself more with certain qualities based on the life you want to live can be extremely interesting and insightful. So, do not be shut off to new ways of experiencing life based on common misconceptions, as there can be valuable lessons to be learned through all sorts of beliefs and ideas.
