Varsity 2025: Warwick women’s volleyball steal the win

With face paint on and ribbons in their hair, Warwick and Coventry’s women’s volleyball teams took to the court to face each other for Varsity.

As the players warmed up, it became clear that the match was to be an exciting one as both teams were casually passing the ball to their teammates with precision.

Immediately after the initial whistle, Warwick women’s volleyball team had asserted their dominance and won back to back points without much difficulty.

Although, a huddle during the break seemingly motivated Coventry as they came back much stronger; not only were they quicker to respond to Warwick’s threats, but they were also on the attack themselves. Despite their improvements, at half time the score remained in Warwick’s favour.

After the teams switched sides, Coventry seemed motivated and determined but, unfortunately for the visitors, even a series of dramatic dives to the ground did not result in them equalising the score. They did, however, put up a brilliant fight with the back and forth play entertaining viewers.

The tactical element of volleyball was highlighted throughout the fixture as the players switched formations and played a variety of passes over the net.

The match attracted a large crowd of Coventry and Warwick fans who celebrated every point that their respective teams won. At the end of the game, it was Warwick cheering the loudest as they secured victory and took the 3 points. The final score was 25-17 to the home side.

Women’s volleyball at Varsity 2025 was a demonstration of what university sport should be, a combination of camaraderie and competition.
