Mindful Moments: I can buy myself flowers

Over the past few weeks, the sun has started to peak through the clouds, the days are getting longer, and the flowers are finally starting to blossom. Now that spring has finally come along, it certainly feels like there is a new sense of endless possibility. As well as breakup season finally being over, the beauty of spring can come to symbolise peace after a long winter storm. This time of new beginnings and opportunities can also be a perfect time to redefine your views on relationships and self-love. This article will give you a few ways to embrace a positive relationship with yourself, using the beauty this new season brings to your advantage.

Buying yourself your favourite flowers can be extremely empowering; it shows that you value yourself enough to give yourself loving gestures

One important form of self-love, especially as spring comes around, is to buy yourself flowers. Often, we wait for someone else to give us flowers as some sort of romantic gesture; however, this does not have to be the case. Buying yourself your favourite flowers can be extremely empowering; it shows that you value yourself enough to give yourself loving gestures. This is extremely important to bring into future relationships, as you know you can rely on yourself to feel loved and valued. The beauty of flowers can also add to the beauty of your bedroom, especially when placed in a vase on your desk or bedside table. So, do not wait for someone else to buy you those gorgeous flowers that you deserve; treating yourself should be your new priority as we enter this season.

Self-love does not have to stop with buying yourself flowers. There are many other gifts you can buy yourself, as well as different habits you can create, to become your own source of happiness. Another perfect gift is to buy yourself a new teddy. Often, teddies are gifts given by a loved one and can feel emotionally tied to a certain relationship. In this new season, buying yourself a new teddy can feel like a fresh start. Instead of being emotionally tied to another person, you can hold and find comfort in something that was given to you, by you, because you feel that you deserve it. A particular favourite brand of mine for teddies is Jellycats. However, there are many affordable and cute teddies in shops such as Flying Tiger Copenhagen or Kenji.

Waking up every morning and writing down thoughts, feelings and plans can help you feel more in touch with yourself and your feelings

Many forms of self-love do not rely on money, and instead are self-care habits that are nurtured over time. For me, a few key habits include exercise, journaling, and solo dates. With the weather having a new sense of warmth, exercising can take many different forms: running, spring walks, outdoor yoga, or pilates. Running on a sunny morning or evening can release many endorphins and be a perfect way to embrace nature. This is also true for a beautiful walk through a park in spring, as it provides benefits for your body and can bring you into a much better emotional headspace. Another important habit to implement is journaling. Waking up every morning and writing down thoughts, feelings and plans can help you feel more in touch with yourself and your feelings. My personal favourite things to write about are three things that I am grateful for that day, as it starts the day in a positive and uplifting way. You can also journal when taking yourself on a solo date, whether that be going to a new café you want to try or sitting in the park and enjoying the spring weather.

I hope this article has given a few ways that you can show yourself some love as a season of fresh beginnings comes around. Although buying yourself flowers is a perfect way to embrace seasonal colours and self-love, it does not and should not end there. This spring, buy yourself flowers and teddies and take time to treat yourself to fulfilling habits and rituals.
