Man arrested on suspicion of murder after fatal stabbing in Coventry student neighbourhood
A man has been taken into custody on suspicion of murder after another man was fatally stabbed and one more seriously injured in a property in Coventry on Saturday 15 March.
West Midlands Police attended the scene at a house on Newcombe Road (located in an Earlsdon neighbourhood popular among Warwick students) just before 2pm, and installed a large cordon on the street.
Traffic was being diverted from the road, with members of the public not living on the street urged to stay away from the area.
In an update issued on Sunday 16 March, West Midlands Police confirmed that a 51-year-old man remains in custody following the incident, which resulted in the death of a man in his fifties and the hospitalisation of another man, also in his fifties.

The statement issued by the police said: “A man remains in custody after another man was found dead at an address in Coventry yesterday afternoon. Officers were called just before 2pm to Newcombe Road after two men were found with serious stab wounds inside an address.”
“When we arrived, tragically a man in his 50s was found dead. A second man, also in his 50s, was found with potentially life changing facial injuries and was taken to hospital.”
A police scene is still in place while forensic examinations and other enquiries are carried out.
Specialist teams from the Police Incident Support Unit were also deployed to the scene on Saturday, and were seen searching drains on the street, according to CoventryLive.

At least three police cars and two police vans were present at the scene.
A second-year student living in Earlsdon told The Boar: “It’s quite alarming, you don’t usually think of Earlsdon as a dangerous place, but then something like this happens.”
The police cordon was removed from the area on Saturday evening, but police officers remained at the scene, a reporter for The Boar confirmed at 6:10pm.
A statement shared by West Midlands Police following the incident on Saturday said: “We have arrested a man after another man was fatally stabbed in Coventry this afternoon.”
“Officers were called to Newcombe Road just before 2pm after a man was found dead and another man was found with potentially life-changing injuries. A man has been detained in connection with the incident and will be questioned in custody.”
West Midlands Police confirmed on Sunday that additional patrols will be carried out in the area in the coming days “to reassure and support the local community”.
