London Fashion Week 2025: A run down of the high-fashion hits
London Fashion Week has been a staple week in the calendar since its creation in 1984, when Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher held a reception at 10 Downing Street for London Fashion Week designers. Since the 2025 London Fashion Week came to a close on February 24, let’s take a look at some of the most memorable moments, looks and trends.
Pugh’s performance certainly achieved Reed’s goal of making ‘everyone…very uncomfortable’
Two years ago, Florence Pugh delivered a monologue inspired by Shakespeare at Harris Reed’s AW23 show. This year, she opened London Fashion Week for Reed with a ‘haunting’ performance, backed up by live musicians. Reed told British Vogue in a preview that he felt as though her character this time had ‘a bit more of an eerie, uncomfortable nature’. This was illustrated through the Gothic nature of her black, hooded gown, which was accompanied by dramatically long lash extensions. Pugh’s performance certainly achieved Reed’s goal of making ‘everyone…very uncomfortable’.
Richard Quinn’s show also delivered a theatrical element to London Fashion Week, with spectators seeing fake snowfall on the runway. Quinn’s looks were classic, causing many social media users to draw parallels between this collection and classic Chanel looks from the past. The elegance of the black and white were typical features within Quinn’s simple yet classic style. In line with this idea of looking back to the past, model Penelope Tree, who rose to fame in the 1960s, featured in the show. A video of Quinn’s show featured on Vogue’s official Instagram account, gaining significant traction online.
Simone Rocha was one of the many artists this year who chose to incorporate slashed garments into her work. Tearing and shredded textures within fashion is a trend which people have predicted to become increasingly prevalent in clothes sold in high street stores.
‘Lee pointed to the 2023 film Saltburn‘ as a source of inspiration for his incorporation of Burberry being both a luxury and British brand
Vogue Runway’s website describes Central Saint Martins MA graduates as ‘the backbone of London fashion’. It is well known that the institution often fosters some of the most famous designers, including Alexander McQueen and Phoebe Philo, as well as Harris Reed. Their collection and show this year focused on the concept of ‘[turning] familiar garments into something extraordinary’. The purpose of the theme was to force the viewer to pay particularly close attention to the runway, therefore creating what I believe to be a sense of the uncanny, owing to the decision to blur reality and the unknown.
Burberry closed London Fashion Week at the Tate Britain museum in Westminster, London. Designer Daniel Lee drew inspiration from the rural, and specifically from the Yorkshire countryside from which he originates, as is in keeping with Burberry’s image and reputation as a coat brand. Lee pointed to the 2023 film Saltburn as a source of inspiration for his incorporation of Burberry being both a luxury and British brand.
London Fashion Week states that all designers showcasing in the official venue have the opportunity to livestream their show
London Fashion Week states that all designers showcasing in the official venue have the opportunity to livestream their show. On their official website, they claim that their digital platform is ‘freely accessible to everyone, industry professionals and global fashion consumers alike, showcasing digital content from the designers, enabling collaboration and bringing together fashion, culture and technology.’
Therefore, despite the claims about the exclusivity of fashion weeks (which certainly cannot be denied, since attending them is certainly a feat which many fashion-driven souls can only aspire to), London Fashion Week is certainly an event for everyone to discover. The live-streaming system means that everyone can discuss their favourite looks. In this way, it brings together a community of people who are interested in fashion, whether they are watching in person, livestreaming, or seeing footage of the runway after the event.
