Mindful moments: the ultimate everything shower
The ‘everything shower’ took TikTok by storm in 2023, however, it has managed to stick around until 2025 as a popular form of self-care. This self-care ritual should occur weekly, involving a deep cleanse and reset so you feel like you have been thoroughly pampered. Whether it is before a date in the evening, or just a simple Sunday reset, the ‘everything shower’ is essential for practising mindfulness and feeling rejuvenated. This is particularly important in the New Year, where the ‘January blues’ can leave us feeling unmotivated.
Lay out some cosy pyjamas on a freshly made bed and have a snack or hot drink ready for when you finish this self-care experience
It can be difficult to know where to start with a mighty task such as a thorough, deep cleanse. However, by giving you some affordable, yet indulgent, recommendations and step-by-step instructions, I aim to help you make the ‘everything shower’ an easy part of your weekly routine. To begin, put aside an evening, preferably with no plans whatsoever, to dedicate to this shower. Lay out some cosy pyjamas on a freshly made bed and have a snack or hot drink ready for when you finish this self-care experience. Lay out all your products, and step into a relaxing, hot shower.
The best place to start is with a nourishing shampoo: a staple in my hair-care routine is Aussie Miracle Moist Shampoo. This shampoo is extremely affordable, and is available at Boots, as well as most supermarket chains. It should be applied twice, leaving your hair feeling refreshed and deeply cleansed. After this, a hair mask is essential for a thorough hair-care routine. This will give your hair that extra nourishment on top of the regular shampoo and conditioner. A particular hair mask that I recommend is the Pantene Molecular Bond Repair Intensive Mask, which creates visibly healthier hair and gives you that extra shine. This cost-effective hair mask can also be found at Boots and Superdrug. To bring the hair-care routine to an end, I recommend using the Aussie Miracle Moist Hair Conditioner, another affordable product that leaves your hair refreshed and moisturised.
Once your hair has been effectively cleansed and treated, the next step is to start washing your body. This begins with one of my favourite steps in the ‘everything shower’ – a deep exfoliation. By using the right body scrub, your skin will be left feeling smooth and extremely clean. A particular favourite of mine is the Snow Fairy Foaming Body Scrub from Lush. However, any Lush body scrub will do the trick, given the brand’s relaxing scents and natural exfoliation. Following on from a gentle exfoliation, a perfect body wash to pair with this is the Sleepy Shower Gel, also from Lush. With a strong lavender scent and skin-soothing oat milk, this shower gel is the perfect ingredient in your bedtime shower routine. Although Lush products may be slightly more expensive than other body-care products, they do create a unique, relaxing aroma that can make your self-care routine more special.
After leaving the shower, another important step in the ‘everything shower’ is a moisturiser. Fragranced with jasmine, grapefruit, and vanilla notes, the Sanctuary Spa Signature Collection Wet Skin Miracle Moisturiser is a perfect product post-shower. It is designed to quickly absorb into wet skin, leaving the skin feeling hydrated and restored. Of course, all these products can be supplemented for whatever works best for your particular skin and hair type. However, this general step-by-step routine is essential for the best reset possible.
To gain the full effect of a reset, practice some mindfulness or journal plans for the week
After the ‘everything shower’, I recommend going straight in with your usual skincare routine, perhaps with the addition of a face mask. A particular face mask I enjoy is the No7 Instant Results Nourishing Hydration Mask, which you can leave on for up to 10 minutes for a more intensive treatment.
Now, in order to completely unwind, dry off with a warm, soft towel and put on your comfiest pyjamas. Perhaps, to gain the full effect of a reset, practice some mindfulness or journal plans for the week. However, it is equally as mindful and effective to put on a TV-show or movie and relax in bed, feeling the full effect of an indulgent ‘everything shower.’
