Leamington Tenpin revamp sure to score a strike with students

Bowling lovers and “Tenpin Tuesday” enthusiasts will be excited by news that Leamington’s Tenpin bowling alley is set to have a revamp in the New Year.

Work is currently underway to transform the already 26-lane bowling alley and arcade into a ‘new and improved’ hub of family fun and parties.

Alongside the vast lanes set for bowling, Tenpin will soon see new pool tables and arcade games added to the extensive array of activities.

For those desiring further entertainment, Tenpin will also house two new karaoke rooms, boasting “state of the art” sound systems, alongside classic pub broadcasting such as football and live sports.

Located near the Shires Retail Park, and a 20-minute walk from Parish Church, an evening at Tenpin has become a favourite for societies and students – primarily due to its affordable prices. The formidable deals of Tenpin Tuesday offer students two games of bowling for £7.90 each, and half pint drinks.

Our goal is to create a fun and inclusive environment where everyone can enjoy great entertainment, whether it is bowling, singing, or simply relaxing with friends and family

Rebecca Wooton, Manager, Tenpin Leamington

Rebecca Wooton, Manager of Tenpin Leamington, told CoventryLive: “Our goal is to create a fun and inclusive environment where everyone can enjoy great entertainment, whether it is bowling, singing, or simply relaxing with friends and family.”

Work to transform the venue will begin over the winter break, and is expected to be completed by February 2025.

Bowling may seem an unusual choice for students as a social activity, given a general preference for the array of cocktail bars in Leamington Spa, and various activities offered in Coventry. However, the accessible nature of bowling, alongside the engagement in a social activity, is a successful combination for a brilliant night of fun.

Following the Covid-19 pandemic, there was a notable downturn in student participation in extracurricular activities, especially those of a social nature. Engaging in activities such as bowling, sober or not, is a valuable investment for student mental health.

It is suggested that a couple of hours of fun throughout the week enhances student skills and motivation, and allows for a necessary break from computer screens and studying.

Whilst Tenpin moves towards more confidence-requiring activities, such as karaoke, the presence of an affordable night of fun for students is nevertheless important. Tenpin’s new look, considering their prices remain the same, will consistently be a reliable activity for more toned-down evenings in student life.
