What’s next for Tyson Fury?

Boxing fans were treated to a heavyweight classic on Saturday night in Las Vegas as Tyson Fury rose from the canvas to knockout Deontay Wilder in the 11th round of the first defence of his WBC and Ring Magazine titles.

The third bout between the two fighters was a fitting end to the trilogy, but boxing fans quickly turned their attention to who both men were going to fight next.

Fans have called for Tyson Fury to take on many different fighters after his win and with the WBC champion describing himself as ‘rusty’ having come into the Wilder fight without a fight in 18 months, it seems likely Fury will look to fight again within the next six to eight months.

With Anthony Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, announcing they have triggered a rematch with the new IBF, WBA and WBO heavyweight champion of the world Oleksandr Usyk, it seems that there is one obvious opponent for Tyson Fury in Dillian Whyte.

The WBC have kept Dillian Whyte waiting for what seems like an eternity as the mandatory challenger for the title, but it seems that if Dillian Whyte overcomes Otto Wallin at the end of the month he might get his chance.

Whyte has called for the WBC to mandate this fight and has described it as “a massive British fight”. Whyte is in the middle of a long legal battle with the WBC that he hopes will culminate with a shot at the WBC Heavyweight title against Fury.

As for Deontay Wilder, many boxing fans came away from Saturday’s fight with much respect for the former world champion as he battled valiantly for many rounds after looking completely out on his feet for most of the fight.

Wilder has lots of options for his next opponent after his trainer, Malik Scott, declared Wilder would not retire. He could look to jump back in with heavyweight contenders like Joe Joyce and Andy Ruiz or gain some confidence from a lesser-known heavyweight.

It is a great time to be a fan of heavyweight boxing and if these future fights provide the same excitement as the Fury-Wilder trilogy we are in for a fascinating next couple of years.
