Police arrest Coventry murder suspect

A murder suspect, who was wanted in connection with three deaths in Coventry and Leamington, has been arrested.

Officers were hunting for Anthony Russell, 38, after a mother and son were killed in Coventry and a woman was found in Newbold Comyn, Leamington on Thursday.

Julie Williams, 58, and her son, David Williams, 32, were found at two separate flats in Coventry earlier this week.

The third victim, Nichola McGregor, 31 from Leamington, was found in woodland in Newbold Comyn on Thursday.

The suspect was arrested after he was seen in a stolen red Ford C-Max car in the village of Rolleston-on-Dove around 4am.

Police said the vehicle was stolen in a “car-jacking” in Leamington on Wednesday.

Russell was arrested on suspicion of murder and robbery in relation to the car. He will be questioned later today.

Assistant Chief Constable Mark Payne said: “The deaths of three people in the Midlands region this week have been shocking and devastating for the families involved. Our thoughts remain with them as they come to terms with the tragic circumstances of their deaths.

“We are grateful to everyone who had assisted with our appeals for information, but although we have a suspect in custody, our investigation must not establish exactly what has happened.”

West Midlands Police are asking anyone with information that could help them with their investigation to contact 101 or via Live Chat on the website west-midlands.police.uk between 8am and midnight. Information can be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
