Corrections to the elections issue

The Boar would like to apologise for two errors printed in the recent Students’ Union elections issue.

Firstly, the candidate for Women’s Officer Krisztina Rékai’s name was spelt incorrectly on pages 5 and 17.

Secondly, the candidate for Democracy and Development Officer Akosua Sefah’s answers were misprinted with another candidate’s. Please find the full text of her answers below.

“Hi, I’m Akosua. I’m a second-year French and History student running to be your Democracy and Development Officer. I believe that liberation should be central to everything that the SU and Sabbatical officers do. Therefore, I will be fighting for a more accessible, affordable, representative, sustainable and safe university for all students. I pride myself on these values and you will see them woven throughout my policies. I would really love the opportunity to be your DDO, to listen and represent your voices and implement much needed change. Let’s fight for something better!

Why are you running for this role?

I genuinely believe that I am the best person for the job. Liberation, compassion and care are at the centre of my politics and everything that I do. The same will go for this job and the policies that I will implement. I have much experience with activism on campus and you can trust me to continue holding the university and the SU to account for their inadequacies. Students deserve better and I promise to fight for that.

What, in your opinion, most needs changing at Warwick?

From my experience and from speaking to students, it’s clear that students aren’t listened to enough and there is a lack of compassion or support when it comes to student welfare – especially that of marginalised communities. These concerns are reflected in my manifesto: my three main priorities are to amplify the student voice, make student life as affordable as possible and to put pressure on the university and SU to be significantly more environmentally ethical.

What has been your favourite memory from your time at Warwick?

Meeting all of the amazing people in liberation societies who are dedicated to important activism. Working with them and learning from them has really been invaluable (I love all of you so much!). It has really helped me to develop my confidence as an activist and to know that the fight is worth it. It has to be done and I would love to continue that fight at Warwick for students. Vote Akosua!”
