Warwick postgraduate organises Big Political Quiz in Leamington

Warwick Postgraduate student will be holding an event entitled “The Big Political Quiz 2018” at St Patrick’s Irish Club in Leamington on 20 June to raise money for the charity Child.org.

According to the quiz organiser, Hannah Wright, a postgraduate student studying an MA in Public Policy, the event will be the chance for Warwick students to put their “niche nerdy political knowledge to the test”, whilst raising money for Hannah’s chosen charity, Child.org.

The quiz is set to include a range of questions, covering a range of subjects from “current affairs to obscure party trivia”, and offering “a whistle-stop tour through the mess that is the current political landscape.” Prizes will be awarded to the winning team, and the team that comes last.

As of this week, 130 people have responded as ‘interested’ to the event.

Hannah has commented that the quiz will enable people to enjoy their engagement with politics in a different setting and fashion:

“Keeping up with current affairs can be exhausting – what with Brexit battles, local elections, and Donald Trump existing – “The Big Political Quiz 2018” will let people actually get some joy out of their engagement!”

Winners of the quiz will receive a prize bundle consisting of donations from local businesses and organisations. As of this week, the prize bundle has over £200 worth of prizes.

On “The Big Political Quiz 2018” Facebook Page, Hannah has been revealing weekly items from the prize bundle that can be won. This includes: two tickets to Warwick castle, a £60 gift card for Côte Brasserie, a £30 gift card for Las Iguanas, a day in which “Fresh Rootz from the University food market will hand-cook a delicious meal for six at your house”, Steamhouse and Wetherspoons vouchers, and a bottle of parliamentary wine from local MP Matt Western.

Hannah has also confirmed that there will be a prize guaranteed for the team that comes last, along with a raffle on the day in which team members can win prizes.

All proceedings from the event are going to Child.org, a community charity that aims to improve education and social and health conditions for children in Africa.

The charity’s most recent project involves providing Baby Boxes to young mums in Nairobi. The aim of this project is to help to reduce infant mortality rates, as well as encouraging young mums to engage with professional health and support services.

Hannah told The Boar:

“Child.org is an incredible organisation, that is committed to ensuring all children have an equal opportunity in life. I was drawn to them because of their ethos – We Do What Works.

“They’re not afraid to push the boat out and try new things, and they’re dedicated to undertaking research and listening to communities, to find out what they really need.”

It is possible to get involved with the charity as part of Warwick SU’s society Child.org, who work in partnership with local organisations to “deliver school based health and nutrition interventions and to inspire young people like you to become advocates for change”.
