Koan Records is a label intent on showcasing the talent of Warwick students
Setting off for this new academic year, Koan Records is a brand new, thrilling initiative here at the University of Warwick. We realised that many of our fellow students have incredible musical skills but do not enjoy the visibility they deserve. Consequently, and as the first student-led record label in the UK, we want to change things here at Warwick, for both artists and the music scene. By promoting original music made by students and making it easily available for everyone, Koan Records seeks to create a different way to listen to the sound of Warwick.
Koan Records is an open label. We do not want to restrict ourselves to one genre for we believe that music is meant to be shared, with interactions between styles. Whether you are a hardcore trap lyricist, a folk songwriter, an adept of EDM, a rock star in becoming or a Tibetan throat singer, you are welcome to be part of our Koan Records family.
Likewise, our team is also important in influencing this decision. With a small established team of different ages, backgrounds and ethnicities, grouped together in an interest to allow for greater creative content and ideas, we are focused and determined on providing new opportunities for musicians, as well as understanding the demands and struggles of creatives in the music industry and balancing time towards the arts and education.

Constantly developing, we are proud to feature high-quality equipment in our recording studio for both artists signed at Koan Records and visitors on campus, where we are in connection with top brand sponsors in the music industry such as ADAM Audio and Tracktion to name a few.
Inspired by artist Liliane Lijn’s infamous Koan for the logo and brand name, we hope that following the artist’s blessing we will be able to truly reflect and become representative of the amazing talent that Warwick students have to offer.
Koan Records has already released acoustic sessions and are currently organising open mic nights. In the meantime for both old and new students, musicians and avid listeners one can keep up to date via our Facebook page, SoundCloud, Twitter, Snapchat and Instagram or old-fashioned email to hear more from our roster of artists, future events and programmes, or even to enquire as a budding musician, producer, mixer, engineer and designer since we would love to hear from you.
