New nightclub that caters ‘outside of student community’ opens in Coventry

A new nightclub with a focus on catering to those outside of the student community, has recently opened in Coventry.

The club, Catch 22, is Coventry’s newest addition to the nightlife scene, and had its opening night on Friday 16 December.

It has been marketed as a club for the local community, as opposed to a student nightclub.

With its ‘chic furniture’ and VIP hosting area, the owners are hoping to provide locals with an exciting and different experience. The club is expected to entice residents from the local community living in the city, rather than just being an attraction designed predominantly for students.

Cities and residential areas surrounding universities nationwide are often overrun with student-based facilities, due to the population of students choosing to live in these places.

Therefore, it is not surprising that certain businesses are looking to break free from this, and create alternative environments to cater for the non-student residents of these communities.

Speaking to the Coventry Telegraph, the General Manager, Kash Hayer commented:

“We’ve made a very conscious decision to cater for the people outside of the student community, and provide an experience that everyone can enjoy.”

The decision to open Catch 22 was in reaction to the recent success of other new independent cocktail bars and clubs in the local area, such as Bayley Lane, which is the club’s sister venue.

Hayer stated: “With it being just around the corner from Catch 22, and with the brilliant prospects in the area for nightlife, we took the leap.”

Rebecca Lusty, second-year Psychology student, commented on the emergence of the club: “I think it’s a good idea to have a club for those who don’t want to go to a student club and are looking for a different vibe, but I don’t see how you could exclude students and if it’s a good club everyone will go, so I think the idea is flawed.”

The emergence of these new clubs and bars is reflective of the growing nightclub scene in Coventry.
