Let’s Dance for Sport Relief 2016

On 2 December 2016, Classical and Modern Dance (CMD) held one of the biggest charity events of the term: the famous ‘Let’s Dance for Sport Relief’. 14 sports teams from across campus created their own routine and competed in a dance competition to try and snatch the competition’s crown.

The atmosphere in the copper rooms was lively and dynamic, with friends and other sports teams raising the roof with their powerful support. The competition gave a range of students at Warwick an opportunity to unlock their creative side and release their inner star, with positive vibes coming from everyone who took part.

Dances from the sport teams were well put together – from their synchronisation, amazing tricks, creativity, and the unforgettable bravery to follow Queen B’s dance steps and costume! Men’s Cricket took the title for the second year in a row, with Surf a close second. The athletics club was given the CMD prize. It was great to see the sports teams come together in support of Sport Relief through an entertaining dance competition.

Performing on stage with CMD was an incredible experience, allowing me to do what I love and share it with others for a good cause. Looking out into the audience I could sense that this enthusiasm ran throughout the #TeamWarwick community. There’s a Chinese saying: “3 minutes of glory on stage, 10 years of hard work off stage” – and I can certainly relate to this. All the rehearsals and hard work the CMD team put in the piece certainly paid off. When performing, the excitement and adrenaline built up to the moment we stepped out on stage, pushing us to perform at our best with confidence and power. It was so much fun and I would do anything to do it again!

Performing with CMD at Let’s Dance for Sport Relief gave me opportunities to develop strong friendships with an amazing group of dancers who shared the same passion. We strengthened and supported each other and grow closer inside and outside of dance. The whole event, from the preparation to the performance, was an unforgettable experience.

If you missed the event, videos of the dances are available on Warwick TV. The night is one of the highlights of the sporting year: you get to see some great dances, support an amazing charity and have a fantastic night!
