Record number attend Coventry careers fair

Coventry University College’s (CUC) recruitment fair attracted a record number of students last month, with 1,300 people attending CUC’s Graduate Placement and Recruitment Fair on 20 October.

Whilst it doesn’t hit the numbers often present at Warwick’s career events, this more than doubled on the 600 students who attended the fair in February earlier this year, despite only being the second time the event has been hosted.

At the fair, professionals were able to provide students with information on potential graduate employment as well as internship opportunities.

Over 40 companies were represented with firms such as E.ON, Nissan and BDO looking to recruit CUC students. Students were encouraged to network as well as gain key insights into prospective career paths.

Aysha Abdullah, Careers and Employability Manager at CUC, commented in the Coventry Observer: “There was a real buzz at the event and I’m very proud of what we put together over a 6-month period.”

At Warwick, the Autumn Careers Fair on 13 October had an attendance of 3,627; the Business, Finance and Consultancy Fair on 20 October had 2,154; and the Law Fair on 25 October had 848.

She added: “We’ve received great feedback from the exhibitors who said it is really worth their time – they have received quite a lot of interest from those who came to the event.”

The University of Warwick has also held several careers events this term, all of which have had similarly healthy turnouts, including in the thousands.

The Autumn Careers Fair on 13 October had an attendance of 3,627; the Business, Finance and Consultancy Fair on 20 October had 2,154; and the Law Fair on 25 October had 848.

Employers present at such events included PwC, JP Morgan, Linklaters and TeachFirst.

Joshua Hatcher, a second-year English Literature student and prospective teacher, stated: “Careers events are really good for gaining information when it comes to different routes into teaching, specifically PGCE’s, PGDE’s and TeachFirst.”
