Pick of the Arts Societies
Warwick Chorus
We are a non-auditioned choir of around 200 members, making us the largest music society on campus. We are, in part, a community choir, and so our members are both students and locals, creating a vibrant ensemble.
Our repertoire is mainly classical, and last year we sang Elgar’s Music Makers, Haydn’s Creation and Orff’s Carmina Burana. This year we’ll be kicking off proceedings with Verdi’s Requiem.
We have one concert every term, and last year we performed in Coventry Cathedral alongside America’s Young People’s Symphony Orchestra.
Music aside, we are also a social group. We host regular socials and have a biennial tour. In 2016 we went to Ljubljana, Slovenia, where we performed in churches and town halls and – bizarrely – down a cave.
Singers of all abilities are welcome, so even those with no choral experience can join in. We rehearse on Thursdays at 7.05pm in the Woods-Scawen room.
Warwick Craft
Craft society is a vibrant, fun and relaxing society with regular socials for all those with a creative flare. No art experience is needed; our society is for those who are up for trying new crafts in our friendly weekly sessions every Wednesday afternoon.
Previous crafts we have completed during these sessions include card-making, jewellery creating and fabric painting. Craft society also run exciting socials- our most recent being a visit to Cadbury’s world. The exec of the society collectively decide on each weeks activity, allowing for some general guidance; still, each craft can be interpreted in many different ways allowing members to use their imagination to produce unique items to take home- whether it is a student alternative for a birthday present or something to give the plain walls of Warwick accommodation a bit of liveliness.
Craft society is a great way to express yourself and to cope with the stress of university while making friends and potential masterpieces.
Warwick Pantomime
Warwick Pantomime – winners of Warwick’s ‘Best New Society 2016’ – are a performance society founded on the basis of inclusiveness. PantoSoc invites anyone and everyone to join in and have a go on (or off) stage, whether you’re a season stage presence or never set foot on one before.
There’s always a part for everyone in a pantomime; our aim is simple: to find a part for EVERYONE who auditions! If acting’s not your thing? We’ve got plenty of space for creative members who want to get invovled in: costume/set design, directing, tech, or just want to be around for the fun and socials.
The most important thing is enthusiasm – pantomime is all about having fun. We hold a pantomime every year early in term 2, so whether you want to get involved on or off stage please join. Bonus: it’s completely free!
