Why you should join Athletics
Whether you want to compete in championships or just keep fit, Warwick University Athletics Club has something for you. Marketing man Neil Gordon gives us the lowdown on WUAXC…
Does the Athletics Club consist of just running?
No, we cater to track, cross-country, and field athletes, as well as to those who just want to stay in shape. Moreover, we boast one of the most vibrant social scenes at Warwick – by joining us, you’re making your university experience the best it can be.
How good do I have to be to join?
Warwick Sport recognises us as having the broadest participation of any club at Warwick, meaning that whatever your ability, the Club will have something for you. Whilst some of our members compete at elite level, some just come to socials or training, so there really is no minimum standard.
What’s the training like?
Last year, we had sessions every day of the week, and training is as easy or as hard as you make it. If you’re aiming for competitive success or just want to keep healthy, our sessions are for you.
What competitive opportunities are there?
Competitions run all year, with there being regional cross country races – open to all – during the winter, and athletics meets during spring and summer. In addition, we compete at three BUCS Championships a year, meaning that you can easily get your competitive fix.
How can I join up?
Come find us on the Piazza during arrivals weekend, or at Sports Fair! We’ll be having a meet-and-greet social as well as multiple taster sessions during fresher’s fortnight, so be sure to come down to those to see what the Club can offer you.
