Preview: Warwick Filmmakers Showcase 2016
You may have often spotted them on campus or maybe even in Leam: groups of distraught people, hurrying from one location to another, lugging heavy equipment, setting them up, shouting “Cut!” and having the time of their lives. Say hello to the student filmmaking community at Warwick – very much alive and full of energy now more than ever.
It is at this juncture that we provide you with the opportunity to watch the fruits of their labour. Five student media societies – RAW Radio, the Boar, Warwick TV, BFT and WITS – have joined forces to create the biggest student media event of the year: the Warwick Filmmakers’ Showcase. Ben Sunnucks, Head of WTV’s Entertainment section says, “there is so much creativity at Warwick and the Filmmakers’ Showcase is really about putting that on display! When people have put so many hours into a film project, just because they love doing so, it is just nice to appreciate that.”

The Warwick Filmmakers’ Showcase is a platform for students to showcase those films they worked so hard on, receive feedback, connect and be encouraged and inspired. It is also an opportunity for the rest of us to enjoy the results of their hard work and passion, and (lovingly) make fun of them.
For the third year the Showcase franchise goes on. While the line-up for this year is not published yet, word has leaked about what there is to expect and it is looking good.
You have our guarantee for a fun-filled night: an interactive host, live band, fun-filled intermissions and amazing films will keep you on your toes. And did I mention the free popcorn that comes with your ticket? While the past years boast a full range of genres from comedy to drama (one with even Nicholas Hoult starring), this year’s line-up is looking to be the best so far.
Now, you may ask: “why should I care if I’ve never held a camera in my hand?” Well, well, aren’t you tired of the same old routine? Tired of going to pubs? Want to try something new? Something original? I know I do. This is our chance.
I know I will be going to watch the best student films made in Warwick, carefully selected by a panel of jury members based on technical quality, storyline and of course, entertainment. The Third Warwick Filmmakers’ Showcase will take place on June 16 at 17:00 in the Ramphal Bulding, room R0.21. Will you be there?
