Nine league titles, one #TeamWarwick

It hasn’t been a bad start to the year for sport at Warwick. If another Varsity victory and multiple individual successes weren’t enough, the final BUCS Wednesday of term two culminated in nine Warwick clubs finishing top of their respective leagues.

Men’s Tennis 3s showed considerable character to put November defeats to Nottingham and Cambridge behind them and win their last six ties. Securing the Midlands 2B title became a formality as they finished five points clear of their nearest competition. Women’s Hockey 1s’ early season form saw them finish top of the Boar Sport’s first ever Power Rankings back in December. This was not undeserved; at that point in the season they had not only won every game but were yet to conceded a goal. Though their defence was eventually breached, they ended the season having won all but one game in Midlands 2A to finish with a mightily impressive Goal Difference of +23.

Women’s Futsal enjoyed an unbeaten 2016 and were only denied a 100% record by draws against Birmingham 2s and Oxford Brookes 1s. They beat the former 4-3 on aggregate in the Premier Midlands Play-Offs and have also reached the semi-finals of the BUCS national trophy. Warwick Squash experienced similar success; the Men’s 1s took the national trophy to add to the women’s Midlands 2A title.

These feats cannot be adequately described by one reporter trying to keep abreast of the plethora of sport taking place at Warwick every Wednesday afternoon.

Such achievements seem almost impossible to better – yet two of Warwick’s sports clubs did exactly that. Men’s Football 1s, 3s and 4s all finished top of their respective divisions, while Mixed Golf 1s and 2s both won their leagues convincingly.

These feats cannot be adequately described by one reporter trying to keep abreast of the plethora of sport taking place at Warwick every Wednesday afternoon. For this reason, it is the sportspeople that were at the very heart of these achievements who will be narrating each team’s road to success. The captains of the three Football title-winners take us through the individual milestones and crucial victories that set up an unbelievable season for the club. Warwick Golf’s Tom Butterworth and Jack Shepherd map out a remarkable set of results that ended with both teams going unbeaten throughout the season.

The dedication and desire, the sweat and strain put in by university sports clubs throughout the year deserves recognition; therefore, it is only right that when these clubs triumph their success stories are told by those who made them happen. So sit back, relax, and read all about the best BUCS clubs of 2015/16.
