Men’s Football bag a very special hat-trick
Men’s Football 1s
One of the most successful seasons in recent memory.
The 1s enjoyed one of the most successful seasons in recent memory, gaining promotion to Midlands 1A by winning all but one game and scoring 50 goals in all competitions. Season highlights included a 6-1 victory over rivals Coventry to win the league, in addition to overturning a 1-0 deficit at Derby to win 2-1 in the last minute. The season brought personal accomplishments to Andreas Kyprianou, who scored his 50th BUCS goal – a feat unrivalled in the club’s history. Also notable were the consistently outstanding performances of Mike Rose, who scored a staggering amount of goals and impressed everyone who saw him play with his technical ability and desire to win. Overall, it was a fantastic season for the 1s, who look forward to joining the likes of Oxford, Cambridge and Worcester in 1A next year for what will certainly be a very challenging season.

Men’s Football 3s
It was only fitting that we won the league with a gutsy performance.
This season was a massive test for the 3s. We never assumed it would be easy, but having competed in this league for the past two years we knew that promotion was our main goal. The season started with an important win against one of our closest competitors for the year, Birmingham 3s. By Christmas we were top of the league, after exceptional away wins at Birmingham and University College Birmingham. However, none of these victories could compare to our cup win over Nottingham 2s; the current holders and a team two leagues above us.
A surprise home defeat to Oxford 2s brought us back down to earth after Christmas. During the second half of the season the unpredictability of our league shone through as every team took points off of one another. We won the league on the last game of the season – 1-0 against UCS with our backs against the wall for the majority of the game. It was only fitting that we won the league with a gutsy performance like this. It was a sensational year to be part of, and I couldn’t have asked for a better bunch of lads to do it with.

Men’s Football 4s
A beautiful brand of football exhibited by some incredibly talented players.
Every year our 4s contain numerous fresh faces but this season we were able to call on a solid core of experienced members. The values of UWMFC were plain for all to see as a beautiful brand of football exhibited by some incredibly talented players saw us go into the Christmas break with a 100% record without conceding a goal. The highlights of term two were our matches against Coventry 3s; a clinical 3-1 home victory and a hard-fought, well-earned 0-0 away draw to set up our run to the line.
The league was sealed on the final BUCS Wednesday of the year when the boys put Nottingham Trent to the sword; thoroughly outplaying and outscoring them 3-0 on a Cryfield pitch that was fit for the occasion. A wonderful season of seven wins, three draws and no defeats was built on a defence that only conceded five goals and player of the season James Hancock, who scored and assisted vital goals throughout the campaign. It was a pleasure to captain such a great group of lads and we’re already looking forward to next year.
